2020 Youth InterACT Grant Program Open

Young Canberrans will have the opportunity to turn their ideas into a reality with the opening of the 2020 Youth InterACT grant program. Young people aged 12-25 years with ideas for projects, events or activities that focus on engaging young people are encouraged to apply for the ACT Government’s $25,000 Youth InterACT grants program.
Minister for Children, Youth and Families Rachel Stephen-Smith said these grants are an opportunity for young people to create projects and activities that start conversations and create change.
“Young people in Canberra play a very active role in the ACT. We have a community of young people who are engaged, passionate and want to make positive change in our city. These grants are an opportunity for young people to raise awareness about the issues that are important to them. They recognise the positive contribution young people continue to make in our community and help to unlock their potential,” Minister Stephen-Smith commented

The Minister explained that grants of up to $2,000 are available for initiatives that actively engage young people in innovative projects and connect young people with each other and to their community, leading to greater social participation and inclusion.
Minister Stephen-Smith explained that the successful recipients of last year’s Youth InterACT Grants round included a Narrabundah Pop-up Skate and Scoot project; a School Community Garden and Composting Bioreactor project; and Portable Blue tooth Sound Box Creation project at Canberra High School.
“The Canberra High School Portable Blue tooth Sound Box Creation project is about creating opportunities for students who have an interest in developing skills around basic electronics, restoration and fabrication practices. Receiving funding from last year’s Youth InterACT grant process created an opportunity for students to further gain and develop insight into a career in custom electronic fabrication and repairs industry.” Paul Simmons, Youth Support Worker, Canberra High School commented “At the same time, it created opportunities to develop and foster positive self-esteem and learning experiences, and enhance individual social skills, motor skills, resilience, strategic thinking, teamwork and leadership skills.”

Applications for the Youth InterACT Grants close Monday 24 August 2020. For More Information
