A babysitter embarks on a mission to save a child who’s been abducted by monsters.

A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting was written by Joe Ballarini and is based on his three-part book trilogy of the same name.

Okay with Halloween coming up in a few days, I suppose it was time that I got around to reviewing at least one scary movie. I’m not the biggest fan of horror movies and if memory serves the last horror movie I reviewed was so bad I was obligated to give it both barrels, so its only right that is a little more fun than scary considering it’s a family-horror movie. Though I am sure there might be a few younger viewers who might find this a little frightening.

I really wasn’t that familiar with the director Rachel Talalay though after looking at her filmography I found out that I had come across her work in the past. The only actor cast that I was familiar with was Tom Felton who really seemed to be having fun with his role as The Grand Guignol. His singing was however unexpected by me. I loved Tamara Smart’s and Oona Laurence’s performances, they really seemed to have a great onscreen dynamic as Kelly Ferguson and Liz LeRue.
The plot was a little basic though I will admit that I did have a few chuckles at the toadies and if I was made to watch this by somebody under the age of 10 I wouldn’t spend the entire movie runtime thinking up leafy green vegetable related vengeance. I thought that it was an interesting move by the filmmakers to have Kelly’s planning moments be similar to the planning moments in the Sherlock Holmes movies released in 2009 and 2011.

It will be interesting to see if A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting gets granted a movie sequel.
