The adventures of supernatural private investigator, Dylan Dog, who seeks out the monsters of the Louisiana bayou in his signature red shirt, black jacket, and blue jeans.

Dylan Dog: Dead of Night was adapted from an Italian comic book Dylan Dog that was first published in 1986 and was created by Tiziano Sclavi. Apparently, there are some noticeable differences between the movie and the comic book its based on, the most noticeable being that the movie was set in New Orleans and the comic book was set in London. Showing that the difference between movie and comic book could be considered something of a tradition for the ‘comic book movie’.

I really enjoyed the effort that director Kevin Munroe put into building the world and I probably would be looking to get a hold of the next Dylan Dog movie if it was not so badly received at the time back in 2011, because as we all know with comic book movies at the very least the goal would have been a Dylan Dog trilogy.
There is a lot of things about Dead of Night that makes it an enjoyable movie for a lazy afternoon or evening though it should be noted that this is not ‘high-octane’ kind of movie. There is the use of ‘The Private-Eye Monologue’ sure I guess it is a cliched trope, but they are good fun and yes, I enjoy them. Then there is the performances Sam Huntington as Marcus, Taye Diggs as Vargas (it has been awhile since I have last seen Diggs in a movie role) and Peter Stormare as Gabriel. I also enjoyed the fight scene Brandon Routh and Kurt Angle.
Dead of Night clearly needed a bigger budget so that some of the action sequences particularly the finale could have been shot on a slightly grander scale. Routh had a good overall look however, sitting here writing this I cannot shake the feeling that Munroe was unable to draw the performance out off Routh that was needed. Routh needed to portray Dylan Dog as more of a grizzled veteran then that of a scoop of vanilla ice cream without any sprinkles.
