The Russian Film Festival 2020 Announces Program

Russian Film FestivalEight Russian hit movies (4 by female directors) will be available on Hyvio’s streaming platform from November 9 to 30. Australian viewers will be able to access popular Russian feature films and animation adapted for screening abroad, free and ad free. The main goal of the Russian Film Festival initiated by ROSKINO, the organisation charged with promoting Russian content worldwide is to introduce a variety of modern Russian content to movie fans internationally.
“In recent years, Russian content has become more popular on many VOD platforms. Case in point are the Russian animation projects in China, the success of the ‘To the Lake’ series bought by Netflix (this series is currently the 3rd most viewed TV Show on the platform), and a multitude of others. The Festival program, from animation and thriller to auteur movies, has been tailored to meet the interests of a wide audience of different ages and with various preferences in film genres. In the future, we plan to implement a hybrid format of the Russian Film Festival, combining online and offline events” Evgenia Markova, ROSKINO CEO commented.

Markova said that by launching the Russian Film Festival brand, ROSKINO has set a new direction for promoting Russian content in international markets. Markova explained that apart from Australia, this festival will also take place online in Mexico, Spain and Brazil in November- December 2020. All films will be shown with local subtitles; as for the animation projects, the viewers can enjoy fully dubbed animation. For the Russian film industry, this is the first online project of its kind, aimed at such a wide international audience.
Markova said that Australia is considered one of the perspective markets for Russian content. Recent statistics suggest that some of the most popular genres in Australia are animation, drama and comedy and the Russian film industry has lot to offer in these genres.
