A 20-something art gallery assistant living in New York City, who also happens to be an emotional hoarder. After she gets dumped by her latest boyfriend, Lucy is inspired to create The Broken Heart Gallery, a pop-up space for the items love has left behind.
For those of you who might be interested the Museum of broken relationships (Muzej prekinutih veza) exists in Zagreb, Croatia.
It turns out that around June last year I posted an article about the cinematic release of The Broken Hearts Gallery so I suppose its only right that I review it, even if I did not watch it in the cinema. I really wasn’t that familiar with anybody involved with the filming of this. It turns out that The Broken Hearts Gallery was writer/director Natalie Krinsky’s debut as a director. Now considering my lack of familiarity with the director and the movie’s two leads Geraldine Viswanathan and Dacre Montgomery the rule of 5 might need to be applied here (for those of you who might not know what my rule of 5 is that when I am unsure about the ability of a director or actor additional chances are given before saying anything to harsh about them).
This is a cliched movie, but then again a lot of the romantic comedies that get released are, so I suppose that can be overlooked especially considering the movie’s heart is in the right place. I also enjoyed all the vignettes throughout the movie by people leaving trinkets at the gallery, it made it seem like a tangible place. The ending yes, it is better when Romantic Comedies end that way. However, (yes, I admit to being a broken cynical individual) I am not entirely sure that the characters of Lucy and Nick deserved that ending especially when their first on screen interaction could have been memorialised in a post on a ‘I don’t work here lady’ forum.
