MMA fighter Cole Young seeks out Earth’s greatest champions in order to stand against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe.

Okay, perhaps I should have done a little homework and at the very least re-watched the 1995 directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Though if I had watched Anderson’s ‘95 movie before seeing the reboot I might have been a little more sweary in my approach to this review, especially considering after some time processing my thoughts about this movie, I came to the realization that was clearly influenced by the 1997 sequel directed by John R. Leonetti. Even if I haven’t been overly favourable with my reviews of the ’95 Mortal Kombat, McQuoid’s is definitely tied as the second-best live action movie, though it also needs to be noted that unfortunately for James Remar he is now the third best Lord Raiden.
Now the scenes of Outworld are beautifully shot and are probably the only reason why you would want check Mortal Kombat at your local cinema because these should be seen on a screen that is as large as possible.
Josh Lawson’s portrayal of Kano couldn’t have been more Australian if he tried, Jessica McNamee seemed to have more fleshed out Sonya Blade then other live action depictions of the character. As for Lewis Tan as Cole Young (slight spoiler) when Cole fought Gorro. I cheered for Gorro.
I get there are what 18 games in the Mortal Kombat video game franchise? And a small amount of lore has developed over the twenty-something years. However, the biggest problem of this ACTION movie was the movie’s pace. A snail could have outrun this movie.
It is my understanding that this is a total re-start of the entire MK cinematic universe, in the event that a Mortal Kombat sequel is made I would like to congratulate Simon McQuoid for flaunting the filmmaking rule in regard to sequels and getting the bad one out of the way first.
