The Irish Film Festival presents Playback X DIFF

A rush of fresh Irish hip hop and R&B videos will play to sofas across Australia when the Irish Film Festival presents Australia’s premiere season of Playback X DIFF online from 18 – 27 June 2021. “Playback X DIFF shows the vitality of music video as a creative artform: the diversity of the artists featured celebrates how Ireland has embraced its new citizens in its rich musical fabric, shaping a new beat for the future Irish” Irish Film Festival Director, Dr Enda Murray commented.
Dr. Murray explained that Playback X DIFF is a collaboration between some of Ireland’s brightest rising music and directing talent, producing some astounding video creations. Hip hop is alive and well in Ireland and Playback X DIFF shows a side of the Emerald Isle not usually seen in mainstream media. The artists’ diverse backgrounds reflect the colour and vitality of a new Ireland brimming with ideas and rhythms from the latest generation. Dr. Murray said that Kojaque, Rejjie Snow, James Vincent McMorrow and Gemma Dunleavy are some of the talent featured in Playback X DIFF, in 12 video clips plus Q&As with directors and music artists. Curated for the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival in 2021 by producer Michael Donnelly V and musician Erica Cody, Playback X DIFF showcases the process, style and inspiration of new musical and filmmaking talents.
Playback X DIFF has travelled to 18 cities thanks to the global network of Irish film festivals, from Moscow to Melbourne to Mullingar via Paris and New York.
