David Vincent Smith’s ‘Burden’ to be made in WA

A new feature-length film from local filmmaker David Vincent Smith will be made in Western Australia, thanks to a production grant from Screenwest.
“David Vincent Smith is an incredible Western Australian talent. This funding will give him a leg up in the competitive industry by supporting the production of his very first feature-length film. The State Government is committed to supporting initiatives such as West Coast Visions that tell our uniquely Western Australian stories. Congratulations to David and the WA team from No Labels Media – I look forward to seeing the film.” Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman commented.

Minister Templeman explained that the film ‘Burden’, which will explore themes of mental health and addiction, was selected as the 2021 recipient of the West Coast Visions initiative. West Coast Visions provides $750,000 for a first-time feature film director to produce a low budget film in WA. Writer/director David Vincent Smith will be supported by producers Jessica Parker from No Labels Media and Lauren Brunswick.
“Western Australia’s thriving film industry will soon be boosted with the construction of a world class film studio and screen production facility at Victoria Quay in Fremantle. It is all part of the McGowan Government’s commitment to diversifying the economy and creating jobs for Western Australians.” Minister Templeman commented.
West Coast Visions is administered by Screenwest with funding from the McGowan Government through Lotterywest.
