A 15-year-old swimming prodigy self-destructs after his father is released from jail.
For those of you who might be interested this is writer/director Tyson Wade Johnston’s debut feature length movie.
Streamline is another entry in the long list of movies that I have seen without seeing a trailer about it before hand. I suppose the reason I wanted to see this was because Jason Isaacs was cast in this, what sold me about this movie was a father and son moment in the third act between Issacs and Levi Miller. For the record it’s such a notable moment that I replayed the scene a couple of times. Going into this I was hoping that Jason Isaacs’ role was that of a real villainous bastard and his performance wasn’t exactly hoping for. Was I disappointed? No. Even with its now limited cinema release I hope that Streamline is shown the love that it deserves, because as we all know at the cinema Australian movies do suffer from blink and you miss it (yes, I have just realised all of the movies I have missed seeing at the cinema because of my own special brand of procrastination but it is still a good point that needs to be made). There are some great performances from actors who I am not that familiar with Robert Morgan, Laura Gordon and Tasia Zalar. I loved Levi Miller’s performance as Benjamin. With all the pressure and to a certain degree of madness surrounding him it was probably only a matter of ‘when he was’ and not ‘if he was’ going to self-destruct. It was good see that Miller was able to bring the screen the strength that was needed to be able to go on that journey and be able to come out the other side.
After seeing Ian Thorpe’s cameo I suppose what needs to be asked should we expect a larger movie role from you?
