Mystery Road Season 3 to Showcase WA’s Goldfields-Esperance Region

The Goldfields-Esperance Region will be showcased in the third series of the successful drama TV series Mystery Road: Origin.
“The announcement of the third Mystery Road series is much welcomed news for our local industry, which is one the many sectors impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.” Culture and Arts Minister David Templeman “It’s a wonderful opportunity for creative professionals across the State, not only enlivening their passion but contributing to what will be another successful Australian series.”
“It is a fantastic opportunity to showcase a region that comprises just under a third of WA – spanning the rugged red earth through to its talc-white beaches.” Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan commented “Let’s hope Jay’s luck changes in this new season and that he finds some personal gold in this fabulous landscape.”

Minister Templeman said that the previous two series were shot in the Kimberley, and were sold around the world, reaching new audiences and significantly raising the profile of WA as a place to visit. Mystery Road series 2 was the highest-rating Australian adult TV drama of 2020.
“I am absolutely delighted to hear that Mystery Road will be filming in Kalgoorlie.” Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent commented “This is such a wonderful series and the economic and social benefits that it will bring to the region will provide a fantastic boost.”
Minister Templeman explained that the Western Australian Screen Fund encourages regional film industry activity – enabling local jobs and contributing to the vibrancy of regional communities. The McGowan Government’s diligent management of COVID-19 makes projects like this attractive to the international industry. Western Australia continues to be a safe place for production to be filmed.

Mystery Road: Origin will air on the ABC in 2022.
