I’m not entirely sure why I researched this, but Attack on the Queen was based on a book written by Richard P Henrick in 1998 ‘Attack on the Queen’. I am glad that I stumbled across this movie in the free section in YouTube Movies considering that its guilty of biggest pet peeves being known by its original title, which Counterstrike when you go and try to look up any information about it. Also, it should be noted that the best way to describe this movie is ‘Fairstar the Funship meets Under Siege’, yes that’s a dated reference but considering that there are several moments when the filmmakers failed to hide the fact that this was filmed in Australia. Considering that this was filmed in Australia there is a fun game that you can play while watching called spot the Australian Actor. As far as I can tell there is 4, though it wouldn’t surprise me if there was more.
Even though this was a poorly executed movie, the main themes of terrorism and the threat of nuclear war made Attack on the Queen at least seem vaguely topical. The performances of Rob Estes and Joe Lando really didn’t scream at me ‘Leading role in an Action movie’ material and I am not in a hurry to look further into their filmographies. The only impressive moment was the fight scene between Marie Matiko and Rachel Blakely, with Blakely’s character dressed in evening dress and heels.
