A young supermarket worker discovers that his older brother is a vampire and must choose whether to help him or slay him.
A vampire movie is always a good fun idea for something to watch and this is the second vampire movie that I have watched that is featured in the Irish Film Festival the other one being The Boys From County Hell. Now it was good to see that there was a difference in the way the two films approached the concept of vampires with the Irish legend of the Abhartach being used in The Boys From County Hell and what could only described as an interpretation of some of the more popular cinematic vampire tropes as the basis for the vampires in Let the Wrong one in and yet the vampires didn’t really remind me of any vampires I had seen in any other movies or television shows as they did not come off as slick or sexy like most other vampires do. I loved the very matter of fact attitude people seemed to have to the existence of vampires in this movie. Even though Let the Wrong One In’s opening had a vibe that I would readily associate with classic horror movies it was interesting to see the direction that the filmmakers took the movie and I could not help but think that despite its rating the movie had a slight kids television vibe to it because there was some silly moments, but silly in a good way, though even with its silliness it did have the emotional moments that it needed. Also despite its rating I couldn’t help but think that Let the Wrong One In had a rather pronounced kids television vibe. I loved the performances of Karl Rice and Eoin Duffy as Matt and Deco. It was also fun in a nostalgic sort of way seeing Anthony Head cast in a role as a mentor teaching people to fight vampires.
