American gangster Erik Vasquez is scheming to become the top dog in the Mexican underworld, only to find himself making enemies out of both the powerful cartels and his own allies.
I stumbled across American Sicario because I stumbled across production news about an upcoming movie Sacrate that also starred Danny Trejo and Philippe A. Haddad. I suppose the reason why I looked for a streaming copy of this was because of Danny Trejo. He has a great onscreen presence even at times it can seem that the quality of his movies can at times be a mixed bag while for the record i’ve never seen any work featuring Philippe A. Haddad or director RJ Collins. Though with American Sicario it was Collins’ first time in the director’s chair. American Sicario has a mixed bag vibe. There seemed to be audio issues early on in the movie with the google play copy that I watched and the less said about some of the action sequences the better. There were some beautiful shots of the Mexican desert and even though I was watching this because of Trejo, I was glad to see that Philippe A. Haddad’s performance as Erik managed to keep the movie from venturing into ‘hurry up and kill him’ territory even though it came close.
