Thousands of volunteers across the country will receive free kits to clean up their local parks, rivers, beaches and outdoor spaces, thanks to Liquorland’s most successful fundraising initiative for Clean Up Australia held over the weekend. In just three days, Liquorland raised more than $163,000 to support Clean Up Australia in its mission to clean up, fix up and conserve the environment, taking the total amount raised over the past three years by the retailer to over $405,000. From Friday 3 March through to Sunday 5 March, Liquorland donated 25 cents from every Liquorland sale online and in-store to the environmental charity.
Coles Liquor Chief Executive Darren Blackhurst explained that the donations were raised as part of Liquorland’s new Love Your Land campaign and will fund Clean Up kits which include biodegradable rubbish collection and recycling bags, protective gloves and high-vis vests for volunteers. Blackhurst said the team was thrilled by the incredible fundraising efforts and the difference it will make to local communities around the country.
“We are incredibly proud to have raised a record $163,000 to support Clean Up Australia. These funds will help make it easier and safer for volunteers to clean up their local communities across Australia,” Blackhurst commented “I was also delighted to see our local teams roll up their sleeves and volunteer to clean up their communities, and I want to thank each team member who joined our group Clean Ups in Coolangatta, Sydney’s northern beaches, Melbourne’s Middle Park and St Kilda beaches and Bentley in Perth. Together they collected more than 200kg of litter,”.
Clean Up Australia Day Chair Pip Kiernan thanked Liquorland for donating the funds that will provide Clean Up kits to thousands of volunteers around the country all year round.
“This generous donation from Liquorland’s Love your Land campaign will enable thousands more volunteers to safely clean up local beaches, rivers, parks and outdoor spaces. It was also terrific to see the Liquorland team across Australia take part in Clean Up Australia Day activities over the weekend,” Kiernan commented.
Blackhurst explained that Liquorland launched its Love Your Land campaign earlier this year to drive awareness of environmental issues that affect all Australians and highlight solutions which move us towards a circular economy. In addition to last weekend’s initiative, Coles Liquor donates 50 cents from the sale of every bottle in its Drop of Good 375mL wine range to the charity throughout the year. Blackhurst said that since June 2018, Coles Group has raised more than $1.3 million for Clean Up Australia through initiative such as donations from the sale of reusable bags and Coles Liquor fundraising campaigns.
