Martin Blank is a professional assassin. He is sent on a mission to a small Detroit suburb, Grosse Pointe, and, by coincidence, his ten-year high school reunion party is taking place there at the same time.
This could be considered something of a revisit for me, however I am certain that I have not reviewed this for The Movie Boards, I’m fairly certain that the last time I watched Grosse Pointe Blank was sometime in the early 00’s. This is the kind of movie that you should watch at the very least just for the soundtrack. It was a little odd seeing John Cusack in an ‘action role’ even if this is a revisit, I have always readily associated him with more dramatic roles and can only think of a handful of action movies that he has been in. I loved the scenes Cusack had with Alan Arkin as Dr. Oatman. The chemistry Cusack had with Arkin is what I would usually expect from a John Cusack role. Dan Akroyd was hilarious and even though Minnie Driver is a talented actress I would have liked to have seen more, made of her role as Debi and what happened between her and Cusack’s Martin. Joan Cusack was brilliant as Marcella. I feel that it was one of her more memorable performances and I loved the banter between Marcella and Martin. I loved Martin’s line to Marcella ‘Don’t mock me, you know what I do’.
