The true-life story of WWII pilots from the 8th Air Force, who were shot down over German territory and became POWs…told through the survivors themselves.
For those of you inspired to track this one down, Angels of the Sky was recently released by Vision Films on July 11th. Angels of the Sky certainly is one of the more interesting movies that I have watched that was released by Vision films, though I would have liked to have seen that the filmmakers used more than just the black and white file footage alongside the recollections of the former pilots featured in the documentary. Angels of the Sky certainly did have its teary moments but its narrator needed to be used more to help put things into perspective. Especially for those who might not be familiar with the history of WWII. Though the recollections of the prisoner of war camps were interesting I thought it was very interesting hearing about the men who even though they were given deferments from the draft they ended up joining the armed services. It was also interesting finding out about Hittler’s propaganda about bomber pilots calling the pilots of bombers ‘Gangsters from Chicago. There was also a you can’t help but laugh story (because he survived) where a pilot discussed an incident where he forgot to turn on the heating for his guns and a friend had to save him. It’s interesting how things can build up in your mind if you watch enough movies ‘A duty to escape’ how there was a point made about not escaping because being so deep in Germany.
