For those of you who might be interested, Retribution is the third remake of Spain’s Retribution ( El Desconocido) (2015) after Germany’s Don’t. Get. Out! (2018) and South Korea’s Hard Hit (2021) it should also be noted that Retribution is the first remake to use the original’s English title. The main reason why I decided to watch this was because it starred Liam Neeson. I had no idea that this movie had been remade three times in the past eight years. We’ve seen Neeson in roles like this before, but even though it’s watchable, Retribution seemed to fall flat on its face and it failed to build any real tension and wasn’t slick as it tried to be.Part of me thinks that I might have to check out the original Spanish because I have a feeling that they might have lost something in the translation from Spanish to Englsh. Apparently I have come across director Nimród Antal’s work before and I’m not in a hurry to watch another one of his movies any time soon. However, I was surprised to see Matthew Modine pop up in this.
