From “Top Gun” to the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, Tom Cruise becomes the world’s biggest movie star by risking life and limb to perform death-defying stunts.

Okay, I will admit that after watching this I have a feeling that I might have to take the time and check out some of Tom Cruise’s work from the 80’s.
As documentary’s go director Tom O’Dell really didn’t bring anything new to the genre with Tom Cruise: The Last Movie Star and yet it is still a very watchable documentary, though it is structured like almost any other biography that has ever been released..
It was good to see that they touched on Cruise’s 2005 controversy where he jumped on Oprah’s couch. I would have liked to see them discuss that particular incident more than they did but considering this is an ‘unauthorized documentary film’ that was wishful thinking on my part.
I was surprised when I found out that Cruise’s production company was involved with the first of the Mission Impossible movies back in 1996. The comparison of Cruise’s Ethan Hunt to James Bond was something I never really thought about too much and the point made about the change from the ‘one man army’ action movie stars to the more ‘aerial acrobatic’ action movie stars that followed.
