Life for Will Stronghold, the son of legendary heroes Jet Stream and The Commander, has the tremendous expectation that he will go into the family business. He enters the high school for teenage super heroes, even though his superpowers haven’t developed yet. With the prospect of leading the life of a side kick, in time Will discovers his own true strengths.
I suppose we should call this a review revisit considering that my last review for Sky High back in 2012, for those of you who might be interested this was released in 2005 four years after Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Even though Marvel and DC seem to be the be all and end all when it comes to the superhero genre, you really don’t have to look that far for alternative ‘superhero movies’ especially when you take into consideration that there were plans for a Sky High sequel (Save U) and a potential Television Series.
For the record my thoughts that Kevin Heffernan deserves a spin off project as Ron Wilson Bus Driver only came from my recent viewing of Sky High because Heffernan brought such a charming ‘wanting to be wanted’ quality to the role. I will admit that I haven’t watched a lot of Dave Foley’s work but I kind of enjoyed his performance as Mr. Jonathan Boy. I liked how Sky High did really try and hide what it was like with the comic book like font used in the opening credits Jim Rash’s performance as Mr. Grayson / Stitches that had a Power Ranger Villainesque ( or if you prefer super sentai) over the top quality the same could be said about Royal Pain’s armor. I loved the cliched music moments where Will Stronghold was crushing on “Gwen” Grayson.
