Renfield, Dracula’s henchman and inmate at the lunatic asylum for decades, longs for a life away from the Count, his various demands, and all of the bloodshed that comes with them.
As the meme goes ‘Nicholas Cage Now in stoic and batshit crazy’ in Renfield we got the batshit crazy Nicholas Cage. It was so glorious, it has been so long since I last saw Cage ascend the levels of craziness Cage did with his performance as Dracula. I enjoyed Awkwafina’s performance (possibly the first role of her’s that I’ve enjoyed) and Nicholas Hoult gave a decent enough performance and was great opposite Awkwafina.
I know it has been awhile since I last reviewed a comedy or at least it seems that way. I’ve never enjoyed comedies where all the jokes are ‘it is so awkward’ so ha ha it must be funny. I was so glad that the filmmakers didn’t let something like that be the entire basis for Renfield’s humor, though yes it did have. I know I haven’t seen Awkwafina in any fight scenes while Nicholas Hoult certainly is the type I’d expect to appear in something like Renfield, Hoult has always struck me as the typical leading man. The fight choreography certainly was creative though the level of blood in the fight scenes seemed as if they were on the level you would expect from a cheesy 80’s horror movie.
