A new 30-unit public housing development has opened in Tuggeranong and is ready to welcome tenants. The unit complex is one of the largest public housing developments delivered under the ACT Government’s Growing and Renewing Public Housing program. The program, launched in 2019, aims to deliver 1,400 renewed or new public homes by mid-2027, which will increase the total number of public housing in the ACT by 400. With the second highest proportion of public housing out of any jurisdiction in the country, the ACT Government continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to providing high quality public housing. “Public housing tenants deserve to live in good quality homes. The homes in this development cater to a wide range of needs and are Class C Adaptable, making them suitable for people with disability and people as they grow older.” ACT Minister for Housing and Suburban Development Yvette Berry MLA commented “The units have also been completed with above-standard energy efficiency ratings, that will provide greater comfort and increased affordability to tenants. The development is close to shops, services and transport, as well Lake Tuggeranong and surrounding parks, allowing residents to take advantage of Tuggeranong’s outdoor spaces.”
“I hope that the onsite playground and range of unit sizes, from one-bedroom to four-bedroom, will encourage a diverse range of households to become a community.” Minister Berry commented “The Growing and Renewing Public Housing program is on track to meet its targets, with more than 640 homes having already been built or bought, and another 577 in the construction pipeline.”
