An afterlife therapist and his daughter meet a friendly young ghost when they move into a crumbling mansion in order to rid the premises of wicked spirits.
Okay I was a little surprised to find out that Christina Ricci doesn’t like her performance in Casper and after listening to an interview she did back in 2022, I understand. It’s been more than a few years since I last watched Casper (I have memories of its cinematic run in Australia) and at nearly 30 years old Casper is still a very watchable movie, for those of a certain age in a Nostalgic sort of way. Ricci does have good moments throughout the movie, the one that gave me the biggest nostalgic pop probably was the dance that Kat had with Casper towards the end of the movie. I loved the mum vibe Amy Brenneman gave off with her role. The scene with Kat and Casper on top of the lighthouse was beautiful in a sad sort of way. There is some real fun with the performances of Cathy Moriarty and Eric Idle, the scene where ‘Cardigan’ and ‘Dibs’ (played by Moriarty and Idle) meet Casper seem a little prophetic and perhaps a little less of a joke when you consider that something like the iPhone was 12 years from being released with the movie being released in Australia on June 22nd 1995 and the first iPhone being officially released in the USA on June 29th 2007. I also thought that the scene with ‘The Ghostly Trio’ and Dr Harvey (played by Bill Pullman) was adorable.
