Based on the true story of two British Army dentists who in 1942, eager to see action, go A.W.O.L. and invade occupied France on their own.

God bless the lunatics, I just love that line from the movie. I’ve watched Two Men went to war but I can’t remember if i wrote a review for it, so this review is and isn’t a revisit. If anybody has any suggestions of a movie that is a ‘so ridiculous it has to be fiction’ true story I’d like to hear them.
For those of you playing along at home the movie is  based on a true World War II story, from Raymond Foxall’s book Amateur Commandos which describes the adventures of two army dental corps soldiers who sneak off on their own personal invasion of France. If you get the chance to  watch Two Men Went to War, you really should. It’s hilarious and is one of those movies that radiates vibes. Considering how ridiculous the plot is, it was good to see that the filmmakers went with the line ‘Most of What Follows is true’ on a black background instead of the standard ‘Based on a True Story’ which I feel is something that gets my defenses up.
While watching this I got the question ‘what are you watching? Is it Dad’s Army?’ (Dad’s Army is an English TV series that ran from 1968 until 1977). I didn’t notice it the first time that I watched it, but it struck me while I was revisiting Two Men Went to War, the way it was shot couldn’t have been more English if it tried.
