A movie crew, traveling to a mysterious island to shoot their picture, encounter a furious gorilla, taking their leading actress and forming a special relationship with her, protecting her at all costs.
Just for the record I have no concrete plans to review the 1976 interpretation of King Kong, though if I come across it I might find myself having to review it.
It should be noted that Peter Jackson’s remake of King Kong was not a shot for shot remake of the 1933 original and in places it seemed to have a darker tone. What also sets the apart from the original is that the final act did not come as being rushed, the technology that was available to Jackson enabled him to give the Empire State building sequence the epicness that it needed. That being said some of the effects used for the interactions between humans and the beasts of the island seemed to be a little off.
Naomi Watts’ interpretation of Ann Darrow was completely different to that of Fay Wray’s. Watt’s Darrow still had damsel in distress characteristics but her Darrow was strong in ways that might have been considered in the 30’s. It was also good to see that Kong and Darrow had some tender moments together
I have never really been that much of a fan of Jack Black’s work but it seems that he might have won me over a little here with his performance. Even though his interpretation of Carl Denham is a complete and utter bastard you can’t help but admire his dedication to his job.
