St Kilda Film Festival 2018 Opening Night

Before I get to far into things, I’d like to take the opportunity to say that this is a professional milestone being the opening night for the 2018 St Kilda Film Festival, is the first ever opening night for a film festival that I have been to and I am not really sure what to write about so forgive me if I don’t write about everything that happened on the opening night (though those of you who follow The Movie Boards’ Twitter might be aware of some of my initial thoughts about what was going on during the night) and I have a feeling that I could have been a tiny bit better prepared then I actually was. I’ll have to chalk that up as a learning experience.
The Palais theatre is actually a very good-looking theatre and was accessible and easy to get into, though I was informed that some of the accessibility was only a recent development. I was really interested in what Festival Director Paul Harris had to say about the history of the festival particular about the Edgerton Brothers Nash and Joel’s film Bloodlock winning Best Short Film in 1999 and how a short version of Shane Jacobson’s movie Kenny also won an award in 2004.
Unfortunately this probably the only event that I am going to be able to see at the St Kilda Film Festival because the preview that I saw for Right there on my tv looked to be very interesting.
There was a brilliant collection of short films shown at the festival some of the films that I thought where stand outs included The Story, which stared Tim Rogers. I was lucky enough to be given an opportunity to watch The Story before the festival and the audience in the theatre responded very differently to how I thought that they would.
I adored the movie Wingman for some reason it immediately gave me thoughts of how the comic book character Snoopy would sit on top of his doghouse and pretend to be a World War One flying ace.
Grace, the teenage girl who played the lead I believe her name is Eliza Scanlin, all I can say about her performance is Wow.
Verde personally I have always been a sucker for a crime movie with a good concept. For Your Sins is another movie that I got to see before the festival and I found that it was just as funny as it was the second time I watched it.
