Sarah Montrose has an identity issue; she’s conflicted, tired and under her own pressure. Out on the town, she meets the philosophical, smooth-talking, Lewis Blake. Handsome, captivating and unbeknown to Sarah, the bait in a sick and twisted game conjured up with his low-life-rich-kid housemate, Kenneth.
Up until a couple of weeks ago I had not really heard anything about Pimped, so I was glad to get a chance to watch this. As it turns out I was not familiar with the work of any of the actors cast in this though it might be interesting to note that both Ella Scott Lynch and Benedict Samuel had both had stints on Home and Away. Also, it seems that Pimped is David Barker’s first feature.
I really do hope that I see more of Barker’s work in the future. Now it should be noted that the first twenty minutes of Pimped does have a rather slow pace, this is the kind of movie that is going to dump you in the water and expect you to be able to swim. I loved what was done with the lighting and the music in pimped, especially with the opening couple of minutes that had me wondering ‘exactly what kind of a ride was I in for?’ I also felt that Barker and co-writer Lou Mentor knew just when to the gas pedal with the first of the plot twists taking the movie in a direction that I wasn’t expecting.
I enjoyed Ella Scott Lynch’s performance from the beginning I found myself wondering just how crazy or smart her character Sarah really was and it was a cool movie by the filmmakers to have Lynch also play Racheal. I also enjoyed Benedict Samuel’s performance as Lewis. Samuel’s character can be described as the slick materialistic guy you meet at the bar who you know is full of shit but gets tolerated because of the way he looks.
