A small group of American soldiers find horror behind enemy lines on the eve of D-Day.
I’m a little conflicted about Overlord. As a World War 2 Overlord is a watchable movie, However, as a zombie movie struggles to better then something like Day of the Dead: Bloodline. On a personal note I am not sure if I would consider Overlord to be a ‘Zombie’ movie, I felt that the ‘mad scientist’s’ research had more of a ‘supper soldier’ feel to it than anything else.
Now I actually missed this one at the friendly neighbourhood cinema, and to be honest I kind of wish that I caught this one at the cinema because of the way it was shot. It was a dark movie that embraced the darkness of the night and a cinema would have made for a better movie watching experience.
I’m not familiar with director Julius Avery’s work, it should be noted that Overlord is only the second ever feature that he directed and it seems that Avery might not have been the best choice for the director’s chair. He did get ok performances out of Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell and Mathilde Ollivier. However, Avery seemed unable to make Overlord feel anything other than emotionally flat.
