Based on an acclaimed novel, Charlie St. Cloud is a romantic drama starring Zac Efron as a young man who survives an accident that lets him see the world in a unique way. In this emotionally charged story, he begins a romantic journey in which he embraces the dark realities of the past while discovering the transformative power of love.
Okay let’s get this out of the way right off the bat, if you despised High School Musical and despise Zac Effron there is nothing that i can say that will make you want to watch this movie.
With that said this is a truly touching and heartfelt movie about grief and loss. Nevertheless, Charlie St. Cloud is not entirely a ‘chic’ flick despite what it may seem. In my mind, this is aimed at guys. Yup you heard me right, guys. Even if the leading man is the latest flavor of the month with all the girls.
What is really good to see is that Director Burr Steers has thrown Effron into a leading man role with a couple of screen icons like Kim Basinger and Ray Liotta in supporting roles and he didn’t sink. He has clearly shed his High School Musical image and is on his way to become a leading man.
Bravo!!
