Col. Guile and various other martial arts heroes fight against the tyranny of Dictator M. Bison and his cohorts.
I normally would have waited a bit longer before thinking about revisiting Street Fighter considering I last reviewed this movie in April of 2017 (before I revisit a movie I usually wait for at least 5 years since the last review), but on a DVD buying expedition I happened across a copy of Street Fighter, so I suppose the fates sort of conspired to entice to me revisit this.
This isn’t the best of movies, this is an early example of the difficulties filmmakers have with adapting video games into movies, though in the 90’s it’s a fair assumption that the filmmakers involved with the production of Street Fighter did not care as much as they would as if they would have if Street Fighter was made now. Its been awhile since I have last played a Street Fighter game but from what I can remember the plot of the movie has nothing to do with the game. At least this doesn’t fall into the same group as the 2012 release of Battleship having a tenuous link to its source material. If the filmmakers actually cared about the job that they were doing, they could have had a fighting tournament movie released before Mortal Kombat (Street Fighter was released in December of 1994 while Mortal Kombat wasn’t released until August 1995).
There are a lot of groan worthy moments through out the movie but the only good this movie was Raul Julia, who really seemed to be having fun with his performance. It should also be noted that there are a lot of groan worthy moments throughout the movie, unfortunately the groanworthy moments do not outweigh the movies funnier moments.
