Shiwan Khan, who plans to take over the world by holding a city ransom using an atomic bomb. Using his powers of invisibility and “The power to cloud men’s minds”, The Shadow comes blazing to the city’s rescue.
If you haven’t heard of The Shadow, this particular movie was released 14 years before the MCU was even a thing. There might be a few younger movie goers out there (and by a few I only mean one or two) might not have been aware that there were comic book movies before the MCU. If the only comic book movies that you have ever watched were released in the MCU or DCEU, your missing out on some interesting movies. In case you where wondering this was released 5 years after the first Batman movie (the one starring Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson).
Given what we have seen from what we have seen of the casting choices used in both the DC and Marvel movie franchise and looking back at the casting of Alec Baldwin as The Shadow an odd choice. Yes Baldwin has been cast in action movies in the past but I don’t think of him as a go to action guy, even by 90’s standards especially considering that The Crow and Blade are probably two of the better comic book movies that came out of the 90’s. But, what cements Alec Baldwin in my mind as The Shadow were his eyes and how they looked when he was in his costume.
Penelope Ann Miller and Peter Boyle gave enjoyable performances. Then of course there is Tim Curry as the beta level villain for the movie, enough said.
I have vague memories of watching this with a buddy at the friendly neighborhood cinema, and I only mention this because the hook that leads you into the final act of the movie needs to be seen a big screen ( not a cinema screen but certainly a screen that is larger than a computer screen).
