Ten fisherman from Cornwall are signed by Universal Records and achieve a top ten hit with their debut album of Sea Shanties.

For those of you who might be wondering Fisherman’s Friends is based on a true story about Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends, a group of Cornish fishermen from Port Isaac who were signed by Universal Records and achieved a top 10 hit with their debut album of traditional sea shanties. Apparently, there are plans for a sequel.

I do remember seeing this one advertised at the cinemas around town but never actually got around to actually going to watch it at the cinema. In retrospect I probably should have got my act together and watched if you take into consideration television speakers v cinema speakers. I went into this completely unfamiliar with the name of director Chris Foggin (looking at his filmography I’m certain that I have reviewed a couple of movies he has been on the production crew for but Fisherman’s Friends is the second feature length movie that he has directed) and vaguely familiar with some of the actors cast in this.
Even though the overall structure of the movie ( particularly the love story that drives the movie along) is a little cliched the reason you should watch this is because of the warm and fuzzy vibes that you get from watching this movie, and the beautiful music.
On a personal note I loved The Drunken Sailor scene during the pub crawl in London.
