Stupid, but well-meaning and super-strong super-hero, Bananaman gets his strength from eating bananas. Before he eats a banana, Bananaman is a young boy called Eric who is keen to keep his alter-ego a secret. His best friend is a crow who brings bananas to Eric (or Bananaman) when they are needed for extra strength. Bananaman is always ready to fight the baddies.

For those of you who might not know Bananaman is a cartoon series, based on the character of the same name and featuring the voices of the members of The Goodies, that aired from 1983 to 1986. After realising that Bananaman recently turned 37 on October 3rd, I felt compelled to at the very least revisit the first season considering it aired during the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s after school timeslot, and is considered one of the Classic ABC shows.

I will admit that looking back at this I am pretty sure that at the time I was unaware that this show was voiced by Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie and Tim Brooke-Taylor. It was good mindless fun. Bananaman still is mindless fun to watch but considering it had been so long since I had last watched an episode it now has the obligatory nostalgia quality that can be added to the show.
The jokes are squarely on the level of ‘dad jokes’ and are probably not going to make you laugh out loud and for the most part there is not a plot that ties the entire season together. but there was usually a moment during each of the episode to do with the performance of Tim, Bill or Graeme that made the show such a joy to watch and caused me to watch the entire first season.
