Okay before we get to far into things Sweet River might not be the best movie to watch late at night, though part of that can be put down to the fact that I try not to review a lot of horror movies. Though that being said this is not the type of movie with a blood thirsty knife wielding maniac instead it’s the kind of thing that is more of a slow burn and it deals with how different people deal with grief. I have to admit that I was surprised with the direction that Sweet River ended up going in the third act.

For those of you who were wondering this was director Justin MacMillan’s first feature length movie and no I am not familiar with any of the other projects that he has been involved with. Though I do hope get to check out more of his work. I loved how MacMillan showed off the countryside.
This is the point where I hope that I have not given away any potential spoilers. The only actors cast in Sweet River whose work I was familiar with was Rob Carlton and Martin Sacks and its been a while since I last watched a movie Martin Sacks was in.
I loved how Lisa Kay took her character to some really interesting and spooky places and Kay had some great scenes with both Carlton and Sacks. After watching Genevieve Lemon as Elenore Drake and how unfamiliar I was with her work. I was left feeling that my cinematic education regarding Australian Cinema might be a little lacking.
