When dwindling membership and increasing overheads makes a local bowling club and prime candidate for a takeover, it’s all hands-on deck to save the club.
I have vague memories of watching Crackerjack when it was originally released in the cinema.
If you stumble across Crackerjack on your preferred streaming service or DVD its worth a look. Now it should be noted that Crackerjack’s plot is lighthearted but perhaps a little cliched but then again, most sports movies have a tendency of being guilty of this bad habit, there is also a smattering of dumb yet funny jokes throughout the movie most notably the scene with the underpants and the scene with the scones. Crackerjack was also the first of a string of three movies that Mick Molloy stared in and where released between 2002 and 2006.
I really wasn’t that familiar with the director Paul Moloney’s work though as it turns out after looking at his filmography, I have watched more of his work then I have realized.
Molloy might not have been the best choice for a leading man but then again this was his first movie role, and he is more then capable of being funny on screen (though I am sure there is more then a few people who think he has a face for radio) I can’t help but wonder how much of Judith Lucy’s role was cut back in the edit.
Bill Hunter, Frank Wilson and Monica Maughan where all a joy to watch while John Clarke seemed to be playing the onscreen ‘John Clarke’ character Australia knows and loves. While Samuel Johnson is one of those familiar faces that you enjoy whenever he is cast in a movie.
