In the throes of World War II, Flight Officer Maude Garrett joins the all-male crew of a B-17 bomber with a top-secret package. Caught off guard by the presence of a woman on a military flight, the crew tests Maude’s every move. Just as her quick wit is winning them over, strange happenings and holes in her backstory incite paranoia surrounding her true mission.
Okay, the first movie made in New Zealand I have watched in for more then a while …… Cool.
I went into this expecting a big loud action movie, Shadow in the Clouds is not a big loud action movie. Was I disappointed? No, there was enough action in this movie to satisfy the action movie fix that I craved. Though as I sit here writing I’m of the opinion that Shadow in the Clouds would have either made a better episode for a ‘Amazing Stories’ type of television show or needed a longer runtime to fill in a couple of minor plot holes, especially if they wanted to make the ending with Taylor John Smith’s character work.
I actually enjoyed the soundtrack when the music for the movie first started my thoughts were drawn to Tron (the 2010 sequel not the original from 1982) and Atomic Blonde. Though the font used for the opening credits did have a comic book vibe, I was little surprised that Show in the Clouds did not have some sort of comic book source material. Chloë Grace Moretz gave a decent enough performance, and I was a little surprised to see Callan Mulvey pop up in this.
