In a bid to save the last of his family, Gutjuk, a young Aboriginal man, teams up with ex-soldier Travis to track down Baywara, the most dangerous warrior in the Territory, his uncle.

It should be noted that High Ground is a fictionalized story inspired by true history. The decision to catch at this at the cinema was a Saturday afternoon spur of the moment decision and I am kind of glad that I caught High Ground at the cinema, if you do not get a chance to watch this at the cinema be sure to watch High Ground on a big television screen and not on a smaller computer screen because the first that struck me about Higher Ground was the gorgeous cinematography, the opening shot of the movie is breathtaking. I am not familiar with Director Stephen Johnson’s work but if High Ground is a sign of how his work is typical shot, he certainly is a director to keep an eye on.
If you go into this expecting a big loud action movie or a shoot-em up western you will end up being disappointed by the time the credits start rolling. The difference between High Ground and the quintessential western (a genre I also enjoy) is that there is more to the violence. High Ground is possibly one of those movies that will cause you to pause for a moment in your cinema seat and think about things for a second before you leave the cinema.
Simon Baker even though he is a great actor there was something about his performance I could not quite put my finger on it but made him seem like an odd casting choice. Taking a moment to think about it, I suppose it could be that I have not seen him into too many roles that occupy a profound grey area. I am really starting to enjoy performances by Callan Mulvey especially when he plays a more morally questionable character. It should be noted that Esmerelda Marimowa and Jacob Junior Nayinggul were making their acting debuts. Both Marimowa and Nayinggul gave great performances and it will be interesting to see the directions that their careers will take them.
