A retired boxer tries to help a new student, Matthew Miller, who is being targeted by bullies. While learning to box and stand up to his tormentors the young boxer must learn to overcome his tumultuous past.
Whoever said that Knockout was a ‘Rockyesque’ movie was dead wrong. At best Knockout is the nerdy little brother of the Karate Kid franchise. Steve Austin gave a performance that was actually better than any of his previous film roles. I would hazard a guess that with some of his scenes he may have been talking to his younger self. Tragically, there seemed to be a dramatic lack of focus on the rivalry between the characters Matthew and Hector. In turn this lack of focus made me unable to emotionally invest myself in the character of Matthew Miller and the reason why he was being bullied at school.
