Shipwreck Hunters Australia to Premiere on Disney+

A documentary series featuring epic shipwreck stories along the Western Australian coastline will premiere on Disney+ in the coming months. Shipwreck Hunters Australia is the first Australian documentary commissioned by the entertainment juggernaut and features a team of ocean adventurers exploring one of the planet’s most remote and spectacular landscapes to bring lost shipwreck secrets to viewers. “I know many Western Australians will be keeping an eye out for familiar locations and landscapes when they tune in to watch this incredible series. The McGowan Government is very proud of the partnerships we have with the WA Screen sector and the wonderful work it produces.” Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman commented “The scenery featured off Western Australia’s coastline is such a unique landscape and will fascinate audiences.”
“The Western Australian Screen Fund showcases our stunning Western Australian regional and remote locations with productions such as Shipwreck Hunters.” Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan commented “This builds pride and economic opportunity as viewers add regional WA destinations to their bucket list.”

WA Director/Producer Brendan Hutchens (Testing Teachers, Drawn to Water, Mission Predator) of VAM Media teamed up with professional divers and underwater filmmakers from Terra Australis Productions to bring these long-lost shipwreck secrets and new discoveries to the screen. They are joined by series producer Katherine Barrett (Aussie Gold Hunters), and executive producer Steve Bibb of Barking Mad Productions. Director of Photography is Darren McCagh and Series Editors are Meredith Watson Jeffrey and Noah Norton. The 6-part premium WA series was announced as one of nine Australian originals at the recent Walt Disney Company ANZ Local Content Announcement event at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
