John Wick Chapter 4

chapter 4

Score 5/6

John Wick uncovers a path to defeating The High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes.

Going to watch John Wick 4 certainly was one of those spur of the moment decisions and though there are times where I feel that rewatching the previous movie in a series, though it might have been a good idea to rewatch Chapter 3 – Parabellum I wasn’t completely lost. Four movies down it is going to be going to see the directions the filmmakers are going to go in the future with the ‘Wick Universe’ series The Continental series is expected to premiere in late 2023  and the movie Ballerina (which looks to be released in 2024). Apparently in a Variety article Donnie Yen has expressed interest in a spin-off centered on Caine. Personally I would like to see a spin-off movie centered on Shamier Anderson as Mr. Nobody.
The introduction of the Bowery King was brilliant; it was the sort of moment Fishburne should have more of in his movies. Keanu Reeves seemed to give the kind of performance that you would expect from him. But it was great that with the expansion to the universe that has happened with all of the previous movies it was good to see that more attention was paid to Wick’s backstory.
In the past I have found some of Scott Adkins’ to be something of a mixed bag but I loved him as Killa. I also enjoyed  Clancy Brown’s portrayal of Harbinger. It was also really cool seeing the two sumos in the Tokyo sequence.
Maybe a slight spoiler (I’m not entirely sure though I am not giving too much away about the plot of the movie) the one thing that took me out of the movie watching experience slightly was that the chase sequence in Paris was clearly an homage to Walter Hill’s iconic 1979 movie The Warriors. With Wick the filmmakers clearly had the opportunity to go bigger then what was done back in 1979 and clearly ended the sequence with their own flair.

Be sure to watch the post credits sequence!!
