Civil War hero Sheriff John Breaker and his son reunite to arrest Union Army friend “The Saint.” Now a fierce gang leader, his raids threaten to bring the country back into conflict.
Okay, It looks as if there is one more movie featuring the character Sheriff John Breaker (The Warrant: Breaker’s Law released in 2023) and I will get to it eventually because I kind of stumbled across this one and watched it because of my fondness for Westerns. At best The Warrant is an average movie. It does have what could be considered to be a religious message but the filmmakers didn’t beat you around the head with their message in an attempt to make you feel guilty. My biggest complaint is that the action sequences looked as if they were inspired by the iconic 80’s The A-Team. I wasn’t looking for a Game of Thrones level splatterfest with the action sequences but it would have been if they had dialed up the intensity a couple of notches. I suppose the main reason I decided to watch this was because it starred Neal McDonough as Sheriff John Breaker, most of the time when I see McDonough pop up in a movie it’s usually in a co-starring role so it’s good to see him in a leading role (I was a little surprised seeing the length of his filmography when I looked it up while writing this review) I loved some of the more comedic moments that he had with Steven R. McQueen and Gregory Cruz. I normally associate Casper Van Dien with his role from Starship Troopers Johnny Rico. It was interesting seeing Van Dien play the villain to the point of seemingly chewing the scenery.
