When Ashley and her young daughter Sarah get caught up in a criminal enterprise that puts their lives at risk, she turns to estranged father Matt, currently living the life of a retired beach bum in the Cayman Islands.
Despite its lack of performance at the box office, The Retirement Plan is still worth the watch. Now yes I did go into this with very little information about the plot, or having watched any of the director’s movies before. The Retirement Plan’s opening sequence gave me vibes that it was inspired partially by Burn Notice, the cynic in me says because the movie was initially set in Miami and definitely something to do with how the characters were introduced. Some of the action sequences certainly were creative, especially the moment with the flare gun. I was a little surprised to see Ashley Greene pop up in this, I think that it’s been more than a few years since I last saw her in a movie while Cage gave the kind of performance that you’d expect from him. Greene and Cage who play Daughter and Father have the kind of relationship I’ve seen in other movies. I was happy to see that Jackie Earle Haley was cast as Donnie. I believe that Earle Haley being cast in a movie is a sign that I’m in for a fun ride. I also enjoyed Ron Perlman’s character Bobo and his references to the character Iago from the Shakespeare play Othello. I also loved the screen time Pearlman had with Thalia Campbell who was cast as Sarah.
