Bad Boys: Ride or Die

Directed by Adil & Bilall. Starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Rated MA. Score 2/6

When their late police captain gets linked to drug cartels, wisecracking Miami cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett embark on a dangerous mission to clear his name.

4 movies, a spinoff television series and a video game. I’m pretty sure that the Bad Boys franchise is dead (RIP 2024), or at the very least wishes it was because Bad Boys: Ride or Die is a pale imitation of the movie that kicked off the franchise all the back in 1995. Now, yes I suppose there’s probably a degree of rose coloured nostalgia goggles at play but Ride or Die failed to get out of first gear. Probably due to petrol prices. It was great to see that Reggie (portrayed by Dennis Greene) got his chance to have a moment in the sun. I also loved noticing some familiar riffs from the previous soundtracks. Martin Lawrence’s performance as Marcus Burnett was the equivalent to listening to nails being dragged down a chalkboard. There where a couple of moments were Marcus needed to be cool and Lawrence just wasn’t given the material because of the goddam belief that arkward is always funny. It rarely is.
