A group of twenty-three students will be competing against more than 100 countries in the 2012 Mathematics and Science Olympiads.
Minister for School Education Peter Garrett commented that this group of students have studied long and hard for many years for a chance to represent their country.
“Since Australia first competed in the mathematics games in 1981, we have won 526 medals in the International Science and Mathematics Olympiads,” Mr Garrett said.
Mr Garrett noted that send five teams to competitions around the world:
• Six students in the mathematics team will compete in Argentina on 4 July.
• Four students in the biology team will compete in Singapore on 8 July.
• Five students in the physics team will compete in Estonia on 15 July.
• Four students in the chemistry team will compete in Washington DC on 21 July.
• Four students in the informatics team will compete in Italy on 23 September.
