As the result of a childhood wish, John Bennett’s teddy bear, Ted, came to life and has been by John’s side ever since – a friendship that’s tested when Lori, John’s girlfriend of four years, wants more from their relationship.

Ted has a cute sugary sweet almost storybook feel in the beginning. That initial storybook feel is quickly shrugged off within the first ten minutes.
Ted is Seth MacFarlane’s live action directorial debut. Despite all of the laughs that Ted delivers (granted some of the jokes are a little groan worthy) there is a definite Family Guy overtone to the entire movie; this is probably because McFarlane wrote the movie with two other writers who have worked on Family Guy Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. If MacFarlane ever gets any futures opportunities for live action projects, it would be good to see if he can deliver something that does not feel like it was written in the Family Guy writer’s room. However, I doubt there is going to be a rush for that to happen.
Mark Wahlberg gave good performance, though he came across as the comedy straight man paired with the foul-mouthed teddy bear ‘Ted’ voiced by Seth MacFarlane. If Wahlberg does any other comedies, I would sincerely hope that gets more jokes.
A bonus half point for Giovanni Ribisi’s creepy dancing to ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’.
