The Hammer follows Matt Hamill, who was born deaf, in his youth and mostly in 1997, when Hamill is a sophomore walk-on at Rochester Institute of Technology and wins the first of three collegiate wrestling championships

From some of the other reviews that I have read, wrestling movies generally find it difficult to find their audience. This could be in the usually clichéd sports movie genre wrestling rates low on the sports movie hierarchy behind all team movies.
The Hammer might seem to be clichéd as any other movie and if you throw in the fact that the movie is about Matt Hamill the first deaf man to win a NCAA Wrestling Championship it would be easy to assume that this hit every branch on the cliché tree. However, despite all of this The Hammer is still very watchable. I loved the unique use of subtitles in this movie, to show what the deaf characters actually heard, particularly Matt when he was younger. I was very impressed by Michael Anthony Spady’s performance he had amazing on screen charisma and at times it seemed that he stole the movie.
