Shane Cooper a young police officer, relocates to the small town of Red Hill with his pregnant wife to start a family. On his first day on the job, Jimmy Conway, a convicted murderer escapes from prison and returns to the town seeking revenge, sending the local law enforcement officers – led by Old Bill – into a panic
For those of you who have read any of my reviews before would know that I am big fans of ‘Westerns’. You would also know that I have had the theory that the ‘Western’ genre has become extinct. After watching Red Hill I think I am going to update this theory and say that they are not extinct but that they have merely been forgotten about. Steve Bisley was brilliant while Ryan Kwanten has an interesting leading man quality about him that I hope to see in his future roles. Red Hill was director Patrick Hughes’ first feature and I was blown away by the flair that he brought to Red Hill, it seemed that he was heavily influenced by 1970’s cinema which was really demonstrated by the fact that the Red Hill was shot in and around Omeo in Victoria.
