Chief Minister, Katy Gallagher announced recently that the Canberra centenary logo will take to open waters during this year’s Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race with the logo being printed on the sail of the Canberra- owned, 44 footer Namadgi.
“The Canberra Centenary logo has been beamed across the world including on a banner when it visited our troops in the Middle East as well as on the International Space Station on a flag carried by an astronaut and now the centenary logo will be seen in one of the world’s most iconic ocean yacht races,” the Chief Minister said.
Chief Minister Gallagher explained that the logo is printed on the racing mainsail of the Canberra-owned 44-footer Namadgi which is currently completing preparations for the grueling 628 nautical mile Christmas-New Year sail south to Hobart. The crew’s red shirts also sport the Centenary logo, the Chief Minister added that the eight-member crew are skipper Paul Jones, Peter Morris, Patrice de Caritat, Steven Ring, Marcus Morley, Michael Martin, Sam DeLorenzo and Peter Ottesen. Their ages range from 27 to 66, and occupations include public servant, retired doctor, geologist, builder and IT contractor. It will be Paul Jones’s ninth Sydney to Hobart.
