Attorney General, Simon Corbell, is calling on individuals and groups with ideas to make the Territory’s roads safer to apply for a NRMA-ACT Road Safety Trust grant.
“There were seven fatalities on ACT roads in 2013, and while that is an improvement from 2012, it demonstrates that there is still more work to be done, especially with the tragic death of another young person on Saturday morning.” Mr Corbell said.
Corbell mentioned that the NRMA-ACT Road Safety Trust supports road safety research and other initiatives through a targeted annual grants program and has allocated more than $20 million to more than 300 road safety projects since 1992.
“A number of local organisations including the Youth Coalition of the ACT, Nican, the Migrant and Refugee Settlement Services of the ACT and the Queanbeyan Road Safety Group benefitted from grants last year, and I encourage anyone with a well-developed idea for improving road safety in the ACT and region to apply.” Mr Corbell Said.
Mr Corbell explained that the Trust is funded by a $2 road safety contribution from each annual compulsory third party insurance policy. NRMA Insurance also makes a significant contribution to the Trust.
