The youngest son of an alcoholic former boxer returns home, where he’s trained by his father for competition in a mixed martial arts tournament — a path that puts the fighter on a collision corner with his older brother.

When we say that a given movie is a ‘chick flick’ we have a vague idea of the kind of emotional journey that we are in for. But to all of the men out there don’t worry you will have none of that girly crap to worry about, Warrior is very much a movie for the guys and not just the fight fans. There is some phenomenal Mixed Martial Arts action in the movie which the fans will appreciate especially when they realize how many professional Mixed Martial Artists where cast in the film.
Okay, yes there is some relationship stuff in Warrior (don’t worry not the girly kind) so I suppose that this could be stereotyped as being the male equivalent of the ‘chick flick’ because it delves into the whole father & son relationship dynamic and the older brother & younger brother dynamic and how they deal with the destruction of their family. I can’t help but wonder if both Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy both had to step things up a couple of notch because Nick Nolte was cast as their father.
I was really interested director Gavin O’Connor’s film making style because for the first time I saw what should be described as a ‘split screen training montage’.
