I Am Soldier follows Mickey taking on the most dangerous military training known to man: SAS selection. The Special Air Service is the UK’s most renowned Special Forces regiment, tasked with missions in some of the most dangerous and hostile locations on the planet. Mickey is smashed by the grueling selection process- physically, mentally and emotionally.
Director Ronnie Thompson really is not a bad director especially considering that I am Soldier is only the second movie that has seen him in the director’s chair and he needs to have directed a few more movies before I can have a solid opinion about his abilities, though he did make some interesting stylistic choices with this movie most notable being the documentary/movie feel this had. I am Soldier is a completely average forgettable movie that at best amounts to a love letter to the SAS. There were no memorable performances any of the cast and I was unfamiliar with most of them save for Noel Clarke.
